High above the clouds in Switzerland lies Mürren, a small alpine village complete with pastures of cows and panoramic views of the swiss alps. While getting there can be a challenge, it’s really just a gondola ride away. trust me, your instagram will thank you.

Hotel Alpenruh overlooking Mürren

A quaint little town in the hills…

Around every corner is a picturesque little shop, a herd of cows with ringing bells, or people driving golf carts rather than cars.

All around you, the majesty of the alps is all that can be taken in. The air is clean, the grass is green…need I go on? Did I mention the cows?

Not only will these hills make you feel alive with the Sound of Music, but the simplicity and ease of life there will make you want to stay forever.

Cable car ride to Mürren

How To get there

Mürren is not an easy place to get to, and as a car-free village, you have to take a combination and cable-cars and trains (but I’m not complaining…)

You basically have two options:

  • Take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp, then ride the gauge train to the Mürren BLM Station.

  • From Stechelberg, you can take the cableway up to Mürren, with a change in Gimmelwald. The cable car station is in the south of the village. Stechelberg can be reached by bus from Lauterbrunnen.

Both options provide unbelievable views and give you just a taste of how high up in the mountains you’re about to be.

Hiking through the hills. What can be better?

hiking (Under Construction)

There are countless hikes in and around Murren, as well as hikes that will take you to neighboring villages such as Gimmelwald.

Schilthorn // An Unbelievable panoramic view

Schilthorn (day trip)

This stop provides unbeatable views of the Bernese Alps without the work of hiking it. Taking yet another cable car from Murren, you arrive at Piz Gloria—a revolving restaurant giving you 360* views of the mountaintops. Featured in the 007 classic Her Majesty’s Secret Service, this mountain is also home to the James Bond Museum and, during the winter, the "Inferno,"—the world’s longest and largest amateur downhill ski race since 1928.
